We celebrated our wedding anniversary by going to Salmon Dave's, a restaurant I had not heard of. Salmon Dave's is located north off Detroit just over the bridge from Lakewood (literally across the street from the pink condos where Bernie Kosar used to live). The decor is rich, but casual. There's no need to wear a tie here.
By and large, the food was very good and portions were generous. I recommend the salmon, of course. Just one problem with the food; the choice of sides that came with my salmon were not the best. Specifically, the vinegar based vegetable salad. Quite good in and of itself, it overwhelms the palette when eating fish. It's simply too pungent. The lobster brisque and creme brule were what you'd expect.
The service was casual, but quite good.
I felt the price was reasonable, considering the area and menu. Salmon runs about $17. Dinner for two should end up around $60, give or take. You won't leave hungry.
I really like the atmosphere, however there is a serious lack of parking. I had a bad experience with the food both times that I was there. Raw salmon the first time and an entry drowned in ginger the last time. The service was friendly and efficient. I thought the prices were too high especialy in light of the food. I liked the atmosphere so much that I would recommend it but with a warning.
Perhaps it is a better place to drink than to eat.
