Another relatively new entry in the Cleveland restaurant scene is Johnny Mango, a calypso-inspired cafe in Ohio City. Originally opened as a juice bar, Johnny Mango now has a liquor license to help you cool the fires of some decent but very spicy food.
Portions are just, well, in a word - huge. Everything is fresh, seemingly made on the premises, and oriented toward the "happy bean" of the day. The food is well presented, service is good and prices are reasonable. Between the fabulous guacamole and homemade tostaditos and the pitcher of Margaritas everything seemed right in the world if even for just a short time.
The night of our visit there were several big groups of friends, mixing, mingling and munching away in the bright mango colored rooms with iguana murals amid the deafening calypso beat (please turn the music down a bit fellas). I can't imagine a better place to go to beat the winter blahs and far cheaper than a road trip to Havana!
