Hunan on Coventry
1800 Coventry Road

Jeff Dauer's Review

If you like Chinese...this is THE place to go. The atmosphere is pleasing. Your dining experience will be accompanied by tradtional Chinese music or classical piped through speakers. Loud enough to hear, quiet enough not to bother. Very spacious with ample seating. Smoking section is not separated very well from the rest of the dining area and smoke knows no boundaries.

While the menu is somewhat limiting, I feel it is the fact that the cook doesn't have to concern himself with 50 different menu items that allow him/her to concentrate on making good food. You will never see the bottom of your water glass because it will be refilled before you can finish it. Serving size is generous. Light eaters should expect take home for a second meal (maybe 2 hours later...get it?). Hearty eaters will leave satisfied.

One of the best features of eating at Hunan's is the fact you simply can't go broke. Average meal price for lunch is about $6.00 which includes soup, hot tea, and your choice of steamed or fried rice. Quite the Bargain!!!

Cindy's Review

Hunan on Coventry is a long-standing Coventry landmark. Located on Coventry Road itself, diners can cozy up inside and watch the many people walk by. The atmosphere is only enhanced by the dedicated service and outstanding dishes.

Hunan offers a wide range of dishes including a substantial vegetarian section. Currently, my favorite is the Bean Curd Homestyle. This dish consists of very tasty seasoned and fried bean curd amongst Asian vegetables and a semi spicy brown garlic sauce served with rice. This is an excellent and filling dish. Of course, before I dive into this outstanding meal, I start off with Hot and Sour soup and some vegetarian potstickers. The Hot and Sour is perfect. At other restaurants, this soup is served having a taste too heavy with vinegar or just too thin, not Hunan's. Hunan on Coventry's version is filled with bamboo shoots, shitake mushrooms, and pork slices all topped with fresh green onion circles. The vegetarian potstickers are equally enjoyable. Other dishes I recommend are the Country Chicken, Twice Cooked Pork, YuShaing Chicken and Shrimp and Chicken with asparagus.

The service here is remarkable. The best I have had in Cleveland. Everyone really seems to enjoy his or her job. It is very attentive service without being aggressive or interrupting to your dining experience. The owners are always at the door to great you and smile and wave when you leave.

Prices are very reasonable, as the portions are substantial. I always have enough leftover to have lunch the next day. Often, my companion and I split the main course; this is usually plenty after filling up on the other goodies. Dinner entrees are 7.95 and up. The lunch meal is about 5.95 including soup and fried rice.

I think you will really enjoy Hunan's on Coventry.
