Those who know me know that I do not like Chinese food. Unfortunately, my wife loves the stuff. Thus, I was brought to this drab little Chinese food place. The decor is dated and spartan, as is common with the genre. Paper napkins and paper place mats (according to which, I was born in the Year of the Horse). Yawn.
The fare here is, well, better than average. While it is no Pearl of the Orient, at least I wasn't left with an MSG headache after dinner. Still, I can't shake the impression that nothing in these places is ever fresh. The fried rice looked and tasted like it had been made hours before my visit. According to my wife, the soups could have been better, too.
Service was average. Unfortunately, while the dining area appeared to be clean, there were signs that the food preparation area was less than pristine. A hair in the egg roll and an unidentified piece of flotsam upon the shrimp chip (that I hope wasn't really a dead spider) - these are not good things.
A bad day in back aside, the cost/portion ratio was favorably high. Most entrees go for $6-8. A large bowl of fried rice is, typically, under $5. Unless you're really hungry, a single entree can easily be shared by two people, perhaps with egg rolls and green tea.
